ZONING

Fixing known problems is much wiser and more actionable than wrestling with the uncertainty that would come with a full repeal of Edmonton's zoning bylaw.  After all, it's much easier to see what isn't working than to predict what will work.

A vote for Joshua Doyle is a vote for a balanced approach.

Joshua Doyle stands for an end to "blanket zoning" in which one zoning approach applies to almost every neighbourhood inside the Henday.  This includes installing "Custom Family Friendly Zoning", delivered in partnership with community.

Joshua Doyle stands for updating and adjusting Mature Neighbourhood Overlays (MNO) in collaboration with neighbourhood residents. This means that every neighbourhood, or collection of similar neighbourhoods, would have their own overlay.  This process will include provisions for, but not be limited to:

  • Parking
  • Waste Management
  • Landscaping
  • Architectural & Design considerations

Joshua Doyle stands for a maximum of four infill units per lot midblock in mature neighbourhoods.

Joshua Doyle stands for policies that discourage rezoning applications for higher density in mature neighbourhoods, except in designated nodes and corridors; along arterial roads; or within 200m of a mass transit station. This can be revisited after the MNO for that area has been refitted.

Joshua Doyle stands for the introduction of a tree protection bylaw. These are common in large cities and require developers to apply before removing large trees on private property, justify their removal, and provide compensation equivalent to the value of the removed trees.

Joshua Doyle stands for the creation of a ‘Community Advisory Committee’. Key individuals will be nominated from the community to represent non-profits; social service groups; youth, arts, and seniors’ organizations; community leagues, etc. Listening sessions will be quarterly, giving citizens a seat at the table to share their lived experiences.
